Blackburn Rovers have been linked with a shock move for the man who once commanded the world’s most expensive transfer Christian Vieri.
Reports in Italy suggest former Bolton and Newcastle manger Sam Allardyce is willing to sign the bulky forward who had spells with Juventus, AC Milan and Lazio, and who cost Inter Milan £30 million in 1999, a then world record.
Gazzetta dello Sport newspaper indicate Allardyce would be willing to offer the free agent a chance to rejuvenate his career in the Premier League on a pay as you play deal, and the 35-year-old is said to be seriously considering the offer.
Vieri was once rated as the world’s best striker, coveted by all the big clubs in world football, and his international record for Italy stands up to most with 23 goals in 43 games.
