Birmingham City have made an audacious bid to sign Arsenal legend Patrick Vieira from Inter Milan.

The newly promoted side held talks with the Frenchman’s representatives, but the Daily Mail indicate the French international is not keen on a switch to the midlands.

City’s chairman David Gold had not ruled out pulling off the surprise deal.

Speaking to the Mail, he said: “We have pulled  rabbits out of the hat before and we want to do it again, but  you can’t do these things unless you try.”

“People would see Vieira as the second Dugarry if he came to Birmingham.”

“Even now it’s not impossible but the odds aren't good, we maybe only have a one in 10 chance.”

Vieira recently told French daily Le Parisien he just wanted to be playing first team football ahead of next year’s World Cup.

He said: “I have to meet with the Inter officials to understand what they intend to do with me,”

“As far as I am concerned, I just want to play, at Inter or elsewhere. I also have to see Mourinho to understand whether I am part of his plans or not. If that’s not the case, I’d prefer playing in Ligue 1.”

Vieira was linked with a host of French clubs including PSG, Lyon and Marseille.
