Bordeaux have moved quickly to scotch suggestions that Arsenal are on the verge of a deal with the Ligue 1 side for striker Marouane Chamakh. The 25-year-old has made no bones about wanting to leave the Stade Chaban Delmas, despite helping Laurent Blanc’s side to the title last term. Tottenham Hotspur, Fulham and Sunderland have also been listed as possible suitors for the Moroccan international.
Speaking to the media in France, Bordeaux president Jean-Louis Triaud clarified that no contact with Arsene Wenger or any representatives working on behalf of the Gunners had been made since the two clubs agreed a fee for French international Sylvain Wiltord in 2001.
"That is only chatter," Triaud stressed.
"I don't know where it came from, but I never heard any Arsenal representatives since (Sylvain) Wiltord, which means almost eight years."
