Kevin Keegan is set for a shock return to management with troubled club Southampton. The former Newcastle manager has walked out on the England team and the Toon twice, but League One Southampton are keen to lure him back into management as part of a new era at St Mary's. The Saints are said to be in takeover talks with Southampton legend Matthew Le Tissier and former chairman Leon Crouch.

And Keegan is the potential owners' number one choice to become the manager, according to Nick Illingsworth, a supporter's trust chairman and a man with close links with the club.

"[The consortium] have put £500,000 for exclusivity apparently, and are in talks with Kevin Keegan," Illingworth said.

"Supporters would see it as a return of a prodigal son, and would put the club back in the headlines. The big question is would the new regime put money back into the club, because Keegan does not do things on the cheap.

"If he got us out of League One then I'd welcome him here. Kevin Keegan does bring life into the clubs that he goes to."

'Just what every unstable, bankrupt club needs. A mentally unstable manager who has insatiable urges to spend money on shite players. Don't do it for god's sake!'
