Manchester City are turning their attentions to Barcelona’s Samuel Eto’o having secured Gareth Barry and losing out on Kaka. The Cameroon hitman has only one year left on his contract and is available for £20m. (Daily Mail)

Mark Hughes also revealed yesterday that he is interested in Carlos Tevez despite Manchester United apparently being willing to pay the £25.5m asking price. (Daily Express)

Chelsea denied last night making a last-ditch mega offer to AC Milan for playmaker Kaka. The Blues were thought to have launched the bid in light of Real Madrid’s £56m offer but Silvio Berlusconi claims no decision will be made before Monday. (Various)

Never one to be deterred by the impossible, Roman Abramovich has turned his attentions to Kaka’s compatriot Pato who could be lured to London for £38m. The 19-year-old Brazilian could be the subject of a £38m bid. (Daily Express)

As if that wasn’t enough, the Blues are also targeting Bayern Munich winger Franck Ribery and Valencia forward David Villa. (The Guardian)

Newcastle United’s Alan Smith is close to signing for Blackburn in a £2.25million deal. The utility midfielder was signed by Sam Allardyce for the Magpies and the former England man could now follow him to Ewood Park. (The Sun)

AC Milan could spend any windfall they receive for their players on Arsenal striker Emmanuel Adebayor. The Togo international was valued at £30m last summer but has seen his value half after a mediocre season. (The Sun)

Manchester United have clinched football's biggest shirt sponsor deal - £80million - with AON Corporation. (The Sun)
