German international striker Mario Gomez looks set to join Bayern Munich after the Bavarian giants announced on their official website that a deal to secure the Stuttgart man was a mere ‘formality.’ The 23-year-old, who has spent three seasons at the Mercedes-Benz Arena had been heavily linked with a move to the Premier League with Arsenal and Manchester City rumored to be among potential suitors.
Bayern general manager Uli Hoeness confirmed on Sunday that the VfB star was a transfer target for Bayern: “He’s a very interesting player. We’ll see what we can do to sign him.”
And the German side, who clinched second place in the Bundesliga behind Wolfsburg, have confirmed that Gomez has agreed to join the Allianz Arena squad.
In an official statement, Bayern revealed:
“Mario Gomez has come to a decision about his future – and has publicly declared his desire to join Bayern this summer. A transfer deal taking the 23-year-old VfB Stuttgart striker to Munich is now little more than a formality.”
