Former Marseille and Chelsea striker Tony Cascarino claims that he is uninterested in talk of Arsenal’s potential and claimed that Arsene Wenger should focus on building a successful team for the present and not the future. Speaking exclusively to sport.co.uk, the legendary Irish international expounded on the problems at the Emirates:

"I am bored of the Arsenal potential. I get bored of listening to it because it is all about the present.

“If you ask any Arsenal fan today if they think they can challenge? The answer is no!

“People say to me if they get everybody fit they will challenge. But no manager can get everyone fit at any one time. You are very fortunate if you get your best eleven fit week in week out.

“Arsenal are very young and very small, I believe they should bring in a bit more experience. When he first joined the club he had a backline of Dixon, Winterburn, Bould, Keown, Seaman and Adams. That was the backbone of that team.”

Asked about the injuries suffered by Arsene Wenger’s squad which have taken their toll at vital moments of the season, Cascarino made clear that solid squad players are a necessity to cover for such eventualities.

“Manchester United didn't have Cristiano Ronaldo for the first six weeks of the season and they dealt without him.

“As a manager, sometimes you are going to lose your best players. It's a squad that wins you things as you all know. I don't imagine Arsenal having a Park, O'Shea or Fletcher - all experienced pros.

“Arsenal doesn’t have anyone like that. For me you have to have these types of players to win things.”

Tony Cascarino is a pundit for The New Football Pools who is offering anyone who plays Premier 10 the chance to get two out of their 10 predictions wrong and still win a cash prize. This means players are 10 times more likely to win a prize than ever before! To play Premier 10 visit www.footballpools.com.

'Why anyone would be interested in anything Tony Cascarino has to say is beyond me, he is a prime example of the shoody media who build stories about this great club and trawl out the same rubbish week in week out. Arsenal win then its "How great to see a team support youth development and work within its budgets, Wenger is a God blah blah blah..... Arsenal lose, then Wenger has lost the plot, no money, no experience, no investment. etc etc etc. Everyone involved in the club understands that the last 4 years have not been good enough and Yes Wenger had made some errors in not replacing key members of the squad but look at the reality, with an injection of more defensive support both at centre back and in the holding midfielder role then Arsenal will be destined for great things. Watch this space. !!! Lastly anyone who cannot hold a job at Talkshite radio should not be given the opportunity to air his rubbish to the masses. Go back to the poker table Tony hopefully you understand that game better.'
