Rooney in furious row with Ferguson, according to Lawrenson
Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney had a furious bust-up with Sir Alex Ferguson in the aftermath of the 4-1 defeat to arch-rivals Liverpool, according to Anfield legend Mark Lawrenson. Rooney was left on the bench for United's next game - a 2-0 defeat to Fulham - and was sent off after coming on as a substitute. Rooney's temperament was called into question this week, but he put his troubles behind him with a virtuoso display in England's 4-0 friendly romp against Slovakia.
The United striker netted twice and has now scored seven goals in his last four internationals.
He is suspended for United's crucial clash against Aston Villa next week and Lawrenson says his hot-headedness is 'an ongoing problem'.
"Everyone knows Rooney had a massive row with Ferguson after the Liverpool game and was then left out," Lawrenson said.
"It's an ongoing problem."
Ferguson's side are currently one point ahead of Liverpool in the race for the title, but by the time they face Villa at Old Trafford on April 5, Rafael Benitez's team could be two points clear - if they beat Fulham at Craven Cottage.
