Steven Gerrard has told Liverpool he's so happy right now that if they offer him a new contract he'd sign for life. The Liverpool captain has just enjoyed one of the greatest months of his career after the Reds thrashed Real Madrid 4-0, Manchester United 4-1 and Aston Villa 5-0.Gerrard scored in every match - including a hat-trick against Villa - and then saw Rafa Benitez sign a new deal to end speculation that he could quit Anfield.

With United's title challenge crumbling after a woeful defeat at Fulham it means Liverpool are dreaming of their first ever Premier League victory after 19 years of trying.

And Gerrard, who has twice turned down moves to Chelsea, is about to put the icing on the cake - by pledging his future to the club for good.

"It is important," said the midfielder, who will be 29 in May. "I do want to be successful. I'm really happy at the club at the moment. I've got two years left on my contract and would be happy to extend it if they offered.

"I've never been happier than I am now in my career. I'm playing in a top team with world-class players and I believe in the manager. I believe that going forward we can be successful."

It's a massive turn-around for Gerrard who has struggled to cope with Benitez's rotation policy in the past and often been frustrated by the Spaniard's constant tinkering with tactics.

But not any more. These days Gerrard is playing in his favourite position just off Fernando Torres and he's looking like a man possessed.

Gerrard added: "My relationship with Rafa has got stronger and stronger as time has gone by. Maybe when I was a bit younger I was a bit selfish and thinking of myself a bit too much when he was playing me out of position.

"Maybe I should have taken a deep breath and realised it was for the team. "At the moment he is playing me in my favourite position, I'm the captain and we are winning. It's really good.

"For years and year I've moaned about not being involved in the title race. Now I'm playing in a team capable of beating anyone in the league.

"I'm settled, I'm happy. On the pitch things couldn't be better. I'm loving this role and that's why you are seeing the best of me."
