Fabregas rules Arsenal out of title race
Arsenal midfielder Cesc Fabregas has ruled his team out of the title race after admitting: 'It's not realistic to look at the league'. Arsenal are 17 points behind leaders Manchester United and six points behind fourth-placed Aston Villa but Spaniard Fabregas is confident his team can claim the last remaining Champions League place. Arsenal have not scored a league goal since the end of January and three successive goalless draws has further dented their hopes, but Fabregas remains upbeat.
"It is not realistic to look at the league title now. At the moment we would not be intelligent to look right to the top of the league," he said.
Arsene Wenger's side came perilously close to missing out on Champions League football in the 2005/2006 season and needed a last day collapse from Tottenham to book their place in Europe's premier competition.
And Fabregas knows Arsenal will have to battle to avoid a similar nerve-jangling end to the campaign.
"We always take things seriously, but now more than ever," he added.
"A few years ago we were really close to dropping out of the Champions League places and had to wait until the last game of the season. It is not easy. Nobody wants to see Arsenal outside the top four, so we need to stick together. We want to survive this and we will."
