Sport.co.uk can exclusively reveal that negotiations between Arsenal and Zenit St Petersburg over the proposed transfer of Andrei Arshavin are ongoing. Nevertheless, according to the Russian international's agent, Dennis Lachter, Zenit St Petersburg's excessive demands are the stumbling block in negotiations between the two clubs.
Speaking exclusively to Sport.co.uk from Tel Aviv, Lachter said:
“Unfortunately all the news are old ones.”
When asked whether there was a possibility that the Russian playmaker could move to Arsenal Lachter replied:
“Time will show, for the moment, there is nothing to comment about. Well, it is like in that famous movie (Jerry Maguire), show me the money! It is just like that.”
“To want somebody and to buy somebody is a big difference. Am I right? The appetite of Zenit (St Petersburg) is huge. If they realise times have changed a little bit then the move for Andrei (to Arsenal) could be very possible. But in the meantime Zenit (St Petersburg) people are living in a dream world.”
The Russian club still value Arshavin at €20 million despite the prevailing economic climate which has seen the pound's value drop sharply against the Euro.
