Sussex have won promotion back to the first division of the County Championship at the first time of asking.
Ollie Raynor hit the runs to secure a fourth batting bonus point against Northamptonshire at Hove, ensuring that Sussex will definitely finish in the top two in division two.
Sussex opening batsman Chris Nash told The Argus: "We want to finish strongly and go up as champions.
"We were not thinking of getting promoted here and then coasting, we want to win our last two games and go up with some momentum again for next year."
Team-mate Michael Thornely told BBC Sussex: "It was one of our targets this year to jump back up into the first division, so it's good to have achieved it with one game to spare.
"It's where we've been for the last few years. We set ourselves high standards and I think it's where we deserve to be as a club."
Meanwhile, Essex have suffered relegation straight back down to division two, as a result of Hampshire picking up a third bowling bonus point in their clash with Kent at Canterbury.
