Former Australian opener Matthew Hayden has likened corruption in cricket to a 'runaway train'.
Hayden has spoken out following the spot-fixing allegations which have led to Pakistan captain Salman Butt and fast bowlers Mohammad Asif and Mohammad Amir being charged and provisionally suspended by the International Cricket Council.
Corruption has been in the spotlight since British tabloid the News of the World alleged that no-balls had been bowled at pre-determined times during last month's fourth Test defeat to England at Lord's.
"The investment the game places in protection strategies to mitigate against corruption is minuscule compared to the vast geographic areas the game is played in and the level of illegal gambling activity," Hayden told the Hindustan Times.
"It really is a runaway train."
