Steven Finn has revealed his surprise at his rise through the England ranks midway through his Test debut against Bangladesh.
The 20-year-old Middlesex seamer was added to the squad as cover on the eve of the two-match series but found himself in the starting line-up on day one of the first encounter in Chittagong following a spate of injuries to other bowlers.
He has responded with a wicket in each innings at close of play on day four.
"By no means 10 days ago when I was lying in bed in my flat did I think I would be playing Test match cricket now," he said after taking 1-31 from 11 overs in Bangladesh's second innings.
"This is a fantastic opportunity for me. Since I was just a little kid this is something that I've aimed towards.
"In fact, as we speak I would probably be getting woken up by an army officer in Exeter.
"At Middlesex we had an army boot camp planned. (Director of cricket) Angus (Fraser) said 'Last year the team went to Dubai and didn't do very well so you're going to boot camp this year'.
"I'd be in the middle of a forest in a tent by now probably."
