The Pakistan Cricket Board have handed former national team captains Mohammad Yousuf and Younus Khan indefinite bans following their behaviour on the recent tour of Australia.
Rana Naved-ul-Hasan and Shoaib Malik face one-year suspensions and Shahid Afridi, Kamran Akmal and Umar Akmal have been landed with hefty fines and placed under a monitored six-month probationary period for falling foul of their chiefs' expectancies.
On Wednesday, the PCB looked into Pakistan's dismal performances in Australia and with the recommended action taken, they must try to retain their ICC World Twenty20 crown in Caribbean next month without many of their big name stars.
However, the PCB feel with discipline blighting their progress, stern action was required.
"This will go a long way to arrest the continuing decline of Pakistan cricket and improve the state of cricket in Pakistan," the PCB said.
"Mohammad Yousuf and Younis Khan, keeping in view their infighting which resulted in bringing down the whole team, their attitude has a trickle down effect which is a bad influence for the whole team, should not be part of national team in any format.
"For the shameful act of Shahid Afridi, which has brought the game and country into disrepute, he be fined (£23,800) and he be put on probation for six months, during which his conduct be strictly monitored.
"Rana Naved-ul-Hasan and Shoaib Malik be fined (£15,000). They should not be part of a national team in any format for a period of one year.
"Kamran Akmal be fined (£23,800) and he be put on probation for six months, during which his conduct be strictly monitored.
"Umar Akmal be fined (£15,000) and he be put on probation for six months, during which his conduct be strictly monitored."
Fellow former skippers Rashid Latif and Inzamam-ul-Haq have quickly voiced their concerns over the PCB's handling of events and the severity of the punishments dished out.
