Recent Hampshire signing Neil McKenzie has lost the captaincy of his South African state side, the Highveld Lions.

The 34-year-old right-hander has led the Lions for six years, but he will now be replaced by Alviro Petersen.

Lions coach Dave Nosworthy said: "Neil has been a superb captain and team man over a long period. His passion for the badge is in no doubt and his players have always loved him.

"We now, however, see Neil playing a different but senior role within the team's make-up and look forward to this new role and the experience he can pass on.

"I am confident that his professionalism and superb form as a player will remain as always and Alviro will receive the necessary support from him and the entire team."
