England and Lancashire cricketer Andrew Flintoff has revealed in an interview with Outre Magazine that his idol is the King of Rock ‘n Roll, Elvis. Flintoff talks about when he first heard Elvis, his poor karaoke performances, and how he he only gets nervous around famous cricketers.

Flintoff told Outre Magazine:

“My first job when I left school when I was 16 was down in Woolworths behind the record counter in Preston. I wanted to go to Australia to play cricket but my Mum wouldn’t let me. I had to find a job, and that Christmas Elvis’ Essential Collection came out and it was like the big hit of the winter. It was just played in the store over and over again. I didn’t like it to begin with but after 8 weeks of it, I loved it, and since then I am a big fan of Elvis.

“We used to go out on a Friday night in Preston in the Railway pub. And my mate Mick Carr used to sing burning love on the karaoke every Friday. That is what I remember. Flintoff told Outre.

“I would like to go out for dinner with him. But out of everyone I have ever met in my life the only people I get nervous around or are impressed by are cricketers. I remember meeting Ian Botham, Sir Viv Richards, sorry, Sir Ian Botham, and Sachin Tendulkar and that is when I get a bit nervous. But I reckon if I met Elvis I would probably be the same. Although I would ask for his autograph…and get a picture as well.”

The 32-year-old has retired from Test cricket in order to prolong his career and had seemed set to focus solely on one-day cricket in the future.

However, he told his county's official website: "My goals have changed since last summer.

"I trust the surgeon, Andy Williams, implicitly and he is very pleased with the progress of the micro-fracture operation.

"When I first had the operation I did not think I would be able to play anything other than one-day cricket.

"But the news of my recovery has led me to believe I may play in all forms of cricket for Lancashire.

"First and foremost I have to prove to myself that I can regain my fitness and perform for Lancashire.

"My first love remains playing for Lancashire and I want to help them win trophies and hopefully I can help achieve that later this summer."
