Steve Harmison doesn't believe he has played his way into contention for a place in the England side for the first Ashes Test. The Durham paceman has caused Australia problems in a warm-up game at Worcester this week.

However, despite his impressive spells for the England Lions, he believes the fact he missed out on making the 16-man pre-Ashes training squad means he will not be playing in the first Test, which begins in Cardiff on Wednesday.

"I have made it difficult for the selectors, but I don't think they will pick me for Cardiff," he said ahead of Sunday's squad announcement.

"I think England are going to play two spinners in that game so I don't fit into that plan.

"I fully understand if that is the case. I will go back and play for Durham, work hard and try again for (the second Test at) Lord's."
