Amir Khan has revealed that he will be looking to fight Floyd Mayweather Jr in 12 months' time, while he plans to retire in 2014.
The Bolton-born boxer recently defended his WBA world light welterweight title for a third time against WBA interim champion Marcos Maidana.
Despite suggestions that Khan will now step up to welterweight and face Mayweather Jr in his next contest, the British fighter feels he will have to wait for at least a year as he firstly wants to unify the light welterweight world titles.
Khan told the BBC: "It's a possibility in the future. A lot of people say I want to fight Mayweather next. I want to fight Mayweather in 12 months. It gives me time to mature and to get more experience.
"Hopefully around April I want to get one more fight in before I unify the division."
On his future in the sport, Khan admits that boxing is a "short career" and says that is looking at "probably retiring" at around 28.
