Injury-hit Mets beat Cardinals
An injury-stricken New York Mets team beat the St. Louis Cardinals 6-4 on Monday night, just hours after star Centre-fielder Carlos Beltran was declared injured with a bruised bone in his knee. The Mets, whose squad is already seriously weakened by injuries, responded well, with the pitchers keeping danger-man Albert Pujols tied down and the batting line-up making 14 hits.
Pujols was clearly frustrated by his failure to turn the game, saying: "I'm human. What, am I supposed to hit everything out of the park?"
But it was only the fourth win in twelve games for the Mets, who will be hoping that key players can return from injury as soon as possible.
