Angels continue poor run
The Los Angeles Angels have continued a run of poor form in an 11-1 defeat to the Colorado Rockies. Meanwhile the Rockies secured a record ninth straight win away from home and their 17th win in 18 games, Brad Hawpe celebrating turning 30 with a three-run homer. The win was their 19th since they fired coach Clint Hurdle in May, a good sign for his replacement, Jim Tracy.
Talking about what had changed since May, first baseman Todd Helton said: "I think we just started playing up to our potential and doing a lot of the little things it takes to win games."
By comparison the Angels equalled their club record of six wild pitches, all of them with Mike Napoli behind the plate.
"It was a tough night for Mike" admitted team manager Mike Scioscia, a former All-Star.
"It was pretty frustrating" added Napoli after the game, which was the Angels third straight defeat.
