Rooney fast off the mark
Olympic 400 metres finalist Martyn Rooney made his best-ever start to a season on an impressive return from injury in La Chaux des Fond, Switzerland on Sunday despite losing to in-form team-mate Rob Tobin. The two British internationals fought a close battle at the before Tobin pulled clear to just win in a season's best of 45.15 seconds.Tobin's performance was the second fastest by a Briton this year after US-based Michael Bingham and bettered the qualifying mark of 45.55secs for the World Championships in seven weeks' time.
Rooney, 22, who also got the qualifier with a time of 45.35, was more than happy with his return to action and said: "I'm really encouraged by my run today. It was my fastest opener ever, so I know now I'm right on track for the World Championships in Berlin in August.
