Usain Bolt believes he could have run the 100m in 9.56 seconds in Beijing last summer had he not decided to showboat. Well clear of his rivals and with the race sewn up, Bolt amazed spectators across the world by beginning his celebrations 20 metres from the finish line. The moment is one of track and field's iconic images but the 22-year-old, who lowered his own world record to 9.69 seconds in the race, insists he could have run even faster.

Asked what time he could have run, Bolt replied: "Maybe 9.56."

The Jamaican recently missed two weeks of training after injuring his foot in a car accident and insists he is now ready to make up for lost time.

"I want to be a legend and I have to keep working and that is what keeps me going," he said.

"It means the World Championship this year, keep winning the Olympics, keep breaking the records - that is going to make me a legend.

"If I want to stay where I am at, it is going to take a lot of work."
