Friends & Rivals: Barry outlines City's key to success
Manchester City midfielder Gareth Barry has dismissed suggestions that Roberto Mancini’s squad is rife with division and lacking in spirit. Comments from recently departed Stephen Ireland called into question the harmonious nature of the Eastlands camp hinting that the lack of a relationship between players and their Italian coach could see the Citizens struggle to achieve their lofty ambitions.
Nevertheless, speaking in the aftermath of City’s impressive 3-0 victory over Liverpool on Monday, Barry stressed that despite the regular change in personnel, all was well at the club’s Carrington training ground.
"People might have questioned whether there was a good spirit here with a lot of new players, but you only had to see how we played and celebrated together to show there is a great spirit in the camp,” stressed the England international.
"It is a challenge now just to get into our 18, never mind the starting 11.
"We are a tight unit and respect each other. We are all friends and rivals that is how it has to be."
