Guard Damian Lillard, who was the Portland Trail Blazers sixth overall draft pick in 2012, has been named as the National Basketball Association's top rookie.
Lillard was a unanimous selection for the award announced Wednesday, after averaging 19.0 points and 6.5 assists in 82 games this past season.
He beat out New Orleans Hornets centre Anthony Davis and Washington Wizards guard Bradley Beal, who finished second and third in voting by North American sportswriters.
The six-foot-three point guard is the fourth member of the Trail Blazers to win the award. He joins Geoff Petrie (1971), Sidney Wicks (1972) and Brandon Roy (2007).
