Tom Sykes claimed his fifth consecutive pole position for this weekend's World Superbike Championship races at Misano.

The 2013 world champion, who won both races in the last round of the championship at Donington Park at the end of May, managed a best lap time of one minute 34.037 seconds at the Italian circuit.

His Kawasaki team-mate Jonathan Rea was second-quickest, 0.220secs behind with Spain's Xavi Fores (Ducati Panigale) completing the front row in third.

Alex Lowes overcame an injured collarbone to head the second row on his Pata Yamaha ahead of Aprilia's Lorenzo Savadori and Honda's Nicky Hayden, who had been the fastest man on the circuit on Friday.

The third row was led by Italian rider Davide Giugliano, who overcame a minor lowside on his first lap to get back to his feet and claim seventh, ahead of Leon Camier (MV Agusta) and Giugliano's Ducati team-mate Chaz Davies.

Honda's Michael van der Mark completed the top 10, less than a tenth of a second slower than Camier in eighth.
