Porsche win Le Mans 24 Hours as Toyota grind to a halt

Porsche snatched a dramatic last-lap victory in the Le Mans 24 Hours after the race-leading Toyota of Kazuki Nakajima ground to a halt on the pit straight.

England's former Formula One driver Anthony Hamilton had helped put the Toyota TS050 into the lead with a couple of hours remaining, with the Porsche 919 Hybrid having its strategy disrupted by a puncture during the night.

However, greater mechanical failure was to befall the Toyota as, with a one minute 24 second lead, and just over five minutes of the 24 hours remaining, Nakajima reported a power failure after crossing the start-finish line for the final lap.

With the Toyota attempting to limp around to the chequered flag Neel Jani flew past in to take victory, giving Porsche their second successive win in the race.

To add insult to injury Nakajima managed to complete his final lap in 11mins 53secs to finish second, only for the car to be removed from the timing screens because its final lap was too slow to make it eligible to be classified.

That promoted Toyota Gazoo Racing, with lead driver Stephane Sarrazin, into second with Audi maintaining its record of finishing on the podium since their debut in 1999 with Lucas Di Grassi leading them to third.
