Mossey at the double

Luke Mossey completed an eye-catching double win in the second round of the MCE Insurance British Superbike Championship at Brands Hatch.

The 24-year-old JG Speedfit Kawasaki rider recorded his first victory at this level in the morning race as James Ellison crashed out from pole on lap 12.

Mossey took over the lead of the race as a result and held on to take his maiden BSB win, with team-mate Leon Haslam coming home second.

Having waited over two years for his first win, the second came just hours later and in similar circumstances as Mossey again proved too quick for the rest of the field.

All of the drama came behind the winner, with reigning champion Shane Byrne crashing out with just six laps remaining and title challenger Ellison not even making the start due to a technical issue.

Christian Iddon took the final step of the podium in the day's first race and went one better in the second, relegating championship leader Haslam down to third.

Haslam is five points clear of his team-mate having completed his own double win in the opening round at Donington Park.

Iddon is third, 21 points off the lead, ahead of round three at Oulton Park in a fortnight's time.
