Marquez undergoes finger surgery

Two-time world champion Marc Marquez is a doubt for next weekend's Spanish MotoGP after undergoing surgery to repair a broken finger.

Marquez broke the little finger on his left hand in a training crash on Saturday and underwent corrective surgery on the same day.

The Repsol Honda rider had a titanium plate fitted at Barcelona's Quiron Dexeus University Hospital.

Dr Xavier Mir, who operated on the 22-year-old, said: "We decided to treat the injury - as we would in the case of any other patient - by fixing a titanium plate to his finger.

"This will allow us to initiate functional recovery after 24 hours and give him a chance of racing at Jerez."

The Spanish MotoGP, which Marquez won last year, takes place next Sunday.

Marquez crashed out in the closing stages of last weekend's Grand Prix of Argentina to hand Valentino Rossi victory.
