World champion Lewis Hamilton heads into Sunday's Malaysian Grand Prix eight points adrift of sole title rival Nico Rosberg with only six races remaining.

Here, Press Association Sport takes a look at the key statistics and trivia heading into the 16th round of the championship at the Sepang International Circuit.

* Nico Rosberg became the first non-champion to win the Singapore Grand Prix, but could that change this season? Four of the last five winners in Singapore have gone on to claim the title.

* Rosberg also sealed his eighth victory of the season in Singapore - which is two more than he managed last year, and three more than in 2014. No driver has ever won eight grands prix in a calendar year and not won the championship.

* The German also became the third driver to win on his 200th start. Rosberg follows in the footsteps of Michael Schumacher (2004 European Grand Prix) and Jenson Button (2011 Hungarian Grand Prix).

* Button meanwhile, will celebrate his 300th start in Sunday's Malaysian Grand Prix. Only Rubens Barrichello (322) and Schumacher (306) have competed in more grands prix than the 2009 world champion.

* Lewis Hamilton has failed to win since the summer break. Indeed the world champion is still chasing his 50th victory. Schumacher holds the record with 91 wins, while Alain Prost (51) is next on the list with Hamilton in third.

* Hamilton has won only once in Malaysia (2014), while Rosberg is yet to open his account here. Hamilton, however, has been on the podium on five occasions which is a record he shares with Schumacher, Fernando Alonso and Sebastian Vettel. Hamilton also has three pole positions in Malaysia.

* Vettel has won more times at the Sepang International Circuit than any other driver. The four-time world champion has four victories here, including last year.

* This year's Malaysian Grand Prix has been moved from its traditional spot at the start of the season. The first two races in Sepang in 1999 and 2000 were the only other Malaysian races to be staged in October.

* Daniel Ricciardo finished second in Singapore to secure his fourth podium finish from his last five races. The Red Bull driver is now 26 points clear of Vettel in the battle for third in the drivers' standings.

* Mercedes, Formula One's all-conquering team, could seal their third successive constructors' title on Sunday. Red Bull and Ferrari will need to outscore them by eight and 23 points respectively to prevent the Silver Arrows from wrapping up the team championship with an impressive five races to go.
