Lewis Hamilton has won his third Formula One world championship with victory at a dramatic United States Grand Prix.

Here, Press Association Sport looks back at his record-breaking season in numbers.

3 - Hamilton has become only the 10th driver to be crowned champion on more than two occasions. The British driver joins Michael Schumacher (7), Juan Manuel Fangio (5), Sebastian Vettel (4), Alain Prost (4), Ayrton Senna (3), Niki Lauda (3), Nelson Piquet (3), Jack Brabham (3) and Sir Jackie Stewart (3).

43 - Only two drivers in Formula One history have won more races than Hamilton. Michael Schumacher (91) and Alain Prost (51).

49 - Hamilton is just one shy of a half-century of pole positions after securing 11 this season. Only Ayrton Senna (65) and Michael Schumacher (68) have more. He is currently on a four-race streak without starting from the front row on the grid, however.

44 - Hamilton broke from Formula One tradition by retaining the number 44 on his Mercedes rather than adopting number one after winning the title last season. Forty-four was the number Hamilton used when he first started racing.

246 - The number in US millions which American business magazine Forbes claims Hamilton has earned in the last 10 years.

1 - Hamilton is the only black driver to have won a grand prix and a championship.

9 - The number of seasons Hamilton has been in Formula One after he made his debut for McLaren at the 2007 Australian Grand Prix. He has since competed in 164 races.

10 - After winning in Austin, Hamilton has become the first driver to win 10 races in successive seasons.
