The 2016 Formula One season will start two weeks later than this year after organisers announced the Australian Grand Prix would take place in April.

The season-opening event will be held from March 31 to April 3, meaning a condensed season due to finish in November.

Race organisers at Melbourne's Albert Park said in a statement it would have an earlier start time than in recent years.
