Ducati rider Chaz Davies put the Italian manufacturer at the top of the timesheets on the opening day of the fifth round of the World Superbike Championship at Imola.

Davies' time of one minute 47.014 seconds put him ahead of Kawaskai Racing Team duo Tom Sykes and Jonathan Rea as the top three riders in the championship standings dominated Free Practice proceedings in Italy.

Leon Camier made it an all-British top four as he set the next best time on his MV Augusta ahead of Althea BMW pair Markus Reiterberger and Jordi Torres.

Seventh quickest was Lorenzo Savadori on the IodaRacing Aprilia, with the top 10 completed by Sylvain Guintoli (Pata Yamaha), Davide Giugliano (Ducati) and Matteo Baiocco (Ducati).

Alex Lowes narrowly missed going straight into Saturday's Superpole Two session after finishing 11th quickest on the Pata Yamaha and will have to bid for one of the two transfer spots from Superpole One.

Also among those missing out were Honda Racing duo Michael van der Mark and Nicky Hayden who finished 14th and 16th respectively.
