British Formula 4 driver Billy Monger was airlifted to hospital with leg injuries after being involved in a high-speed crash at Donington Park when his car ploughed into the back of another at the Leicestershire circuit.

The 17-year-old's Carlin car crashed into the back of the JHR Developments car of Finnish driver Patrik Pasma, which appeared to have stopped on the track in onboard video of the incident.

Monger was in the car for 90 minutes before being airlifted to the nearby Queen's Medical Centre in Nottingham.

A statement was issued by F4, series organisers TOCA and the Donington Park circuit, which read: " Monger has been carefully extracted from the car after suffering leg injuries, and has since been airlifted to the Queen's Medical Centre in Nottingham for further examination.

"Pasma was also carefully extracted from his car. He was fully conscious and immediately taken to the on-site medical centre. He has since been taken to the Queen's Medical Centre for further assessment.

"Further information will be provided in due course."
