A host of Premier League clubs are still trying to sign Racing Santander wonderkid Sergio Canales from under the noses of La Liga giants Real Madrid and Barcelona. Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester City and in particular Manchester United have all been in contact with youngster’s father. Sir Alex Ferguson is believed to have personally shown the player’s representatives around their Carrington training facilities in a bid to persuade the brilliant 18-year-old to move to Old Trafford. Arsenal have reportedly beaten their bitter North London rivals Tottenham to the signature of Serbian youngster Stefan Savic from BSK Borca. The 19-year-old has been monitored by the likes of Manchester United and Chelsea, but having undergone trials with both Arsenal and Spurs, Arsene Wenger appears to have won the race. (Daily Mirror)
Arsenal captain Cesc Fabregas remains at the forefront of reports in Spain, with speculation suggesting Barcelona will definitely make a lucrative move for the 22-year-old Emirates talisman. According to reports the player is believed to be considering his future due to the club’s lack of ambition. Poor results against Premier League rivals Manchester United and Chelsea this season have reportedly exasperated Fabregas’ desire to stay at the club. (The Sun)
Liverpool are on the verge of completing a deal to sign Milan Jovanovic on a free transfer at the end of the season. The Standard Liege forward is out of contract in the summer and has been linked with AC Milan, Juventus and Lazio, yet Rafa Benitez appears to have won the race for the Serbian. (The Times)
Birmingham City reportedly pulled out of a deal to sign Tottenham forward Roman Pavlyuchenko at the last minute because the North London club increased their valuation to £12 million. The Russian international had been linked with Arsenal, Liverpool and a host of clubs around Europe however he could still leave the club if one of either CSKA or Lokomotiv Moscow meet Spurs’ price tag. Fabio Capello will reportedly wait until the weekend prior to making a decision over John Terry’s England captaincy credentials in light of his well publicised extra-martial affair. The Italian is fearful of more revelations about the Chelsea defender this week and will therefore bide his time before making a decision. (The Independent)
Differing reports intimate Capello is likely to retain the Chelsea star as his captain despite a feeling from within FA headquarters that Terry’s position is untenable. (Daily Mirror)
Liverpool’s cash-strapped owners George Gillett and Tom Hicks have less than six months to secure £100 million worth of investment for their creditors, or they will be forced to put the club up for sale. (The Times)
Manchester City striker Carlos Tevez, formerly of Manchester United, has revealed the infamous ‘Welcome to Manchester’ poster which greeted his arrival at the Eastlands club now adorns a wall in his home in Argentina. (The Sun)
