Manchester City are gearing up for a massive post-Christmas spending spree and are apparently determined to spend £70m. Mark Hughes has been told to focus his attentions on securing the services of either Kaka, Lionel Messi, Carlos Tevez and Samuel Eto’o. (Independent)

Manchester City are also being linked with Valencia’s David Villa and Blackburn’s Roque Santa Cruz as they look for a top quality striker to lead the line at Eastlands. (Various)

Ronaldinho has admitted he came very close to joining Robinho in Manchester but opted to move to Milan at the last moment. The Brazilian admitted that the project at Eastlands was very appealing but chose to accept a deal from Silvio Berlusconi after years of phone calls from the Italian prime minister. (FourFourTwo)

Following their exit from the Carling Cup several of Arsene Wenger’s young Gunners could move on loan for the rest of the season. Jay Simpson is linked with a move to Norwich while Keiran Gibbs, Gavin Hoyte and Jack Wilshere are all subject of interest from Championship clubs. (Daily Mirror)

Having already been linked with Wayne Hennessey and Robert Green, Harry Redknapp is now set to turn his attention to David James as his quest for a new goalkeeper steps up. Portsmouth will be reluctant to sell the England No.1 but with funds tight they may have little choice if Spurs come up with a suitable bid. (Daily Mirror)

Liverpool’s Daniel Agger has become a target for AC Milan after contract negotiations apparently stalled. The 23-year-old Danish international moved to Anfield in 2006 for £6m and has established himself as an important member of Rafa Benitez’s squad. (Various)

Barcelona are tracking the progress of Portsmouth loan-star Nadir Belhadj. The player who is contracted to Lens impressed in Pompey’s Uefa cup match against AC Milan and has seen his value soar to £4m. (Daily Mirror)
