Willett prepared for long wait

England's Danny Willett faced another long wait to see where he stood in the weather-affected Open Championship at St Andrews on Saturday.

Willett was 41 under par for his last 10 rounds on the Old Course after adding a second round of 69 to his opening 66 to reach nine under par, two shots ahead of Scotland's Marc Warren, former Masters champions Zach Johnson and Adam Scott and American Robert Streb.

However, 42 players were unable to complete their rounds due to a delay of more than three hours on Friday morning after torrential rain flooded the course, among them US Open runner-up Dustin Johnson, who was 10 under par with five holes to play.

Former champion Paul Lawrie was eight under with six holes remaining, along with Australian Jason Day, who had seven holes to complete when play resumed at 7am.

South Africa's Louis Oosthuizen, who lifted the Claret Jug at St Andrews in 2010, was seven under par after 11 holes, but playing partner Tiger Woods was five over and needed a brilliant finish to avoid successive missed cuts in majors for the first time in his career.

The cut was projected to fall at level par with the top 70 players and ties advancing to the third round, which would be played in groups of three to attempt to make up for lost time.

" I think we're going to probably have a pretty late tee time on Saturday," said Willett, the 27-year-old son of a Sheffield vicar.

"You probably have another two-and-a-half hours of play in the morning before they can do a cut, redo the holes, redo everything, so it's going to be a pretty long next two days.

"We're just going to try and keep relaxed and enjoy the fact that we're at the Open and we're contending.

"To see your name at the top of any leaderboard is good, especially when you're at the Open and your name is up top and you see the names behind you.

"It's something you need to embrace and you need to get used to, otherwise you're going to have a pretty tough weekend if you don't like being there."
