Four players will return to compete for the RSM Classic on Monday after bad light curtailed a sudden-death play-off at Sea Island.
Overnight leader Mackenzie Hughes, Americans Blayne Barber and Billy Horschel, Swede Henrik Norlander and Colombia's Camilo Villegas all finished on 17 under par after 72 holes.
Two extra holes were played before darkness intervened, with former FedEx Cup winner Horschel missing a two footer for par on the first trip back down the 18th to drop out of the contest.
Canadian Hughes and Villegas both missed puts for the win at the second extra hole and, with light fading, officials decided that the third play-off hole - which will be the par-three 17th - would be played on Monday.
Hughes, who has never previously had a top-10 finish on the PGA Tour, is looking to become the first rookie to complete a wire-to-wire victory for 20 years, but missed birdie chances on the 15th and 16th holes and eventually had to make a five footer on the last for a one under 69 to force his way into the play-off.
Of the four remaining players, only Villegas has won on the PGA Tour before, but the 34-year-old is without a full playing status after a disappointing 2016 campaign which saw him finish 152nd in the FedEx Cup, despite skipping the Olympics to focus on retaining his card.
He made a late charge with a tap-in birdie on the 16th and 18 footer on the 17th for a round of 68, while Norlander shot 65 and Barber 66.
