Rafa Cabrera Bello pleased to put Ryder Cup team first

Rafa Cabrera Bello had no issue with Darren Clarke's decision to split up his dynamic partnership with Sergio Garcia on the second day of the Ryder Cup.

Europe's Spanish duo produced a stunning finish to halve their foursomes match against the United States' Jordan Spieth and Patrick Reed after trailing by four holes with six to play at Hazeltine.

That came after the pair beat JB Holmes and Ryan Moore 3&2 in their fourballs meeting on Friday.

After such a finish, captain Clarke might have wanted to send them out together again in the Saturday fourballs but he had already decided to sit rookie Cabrera Bello out of that session.

Cabrera Bello said: "I'm not disappointed at all. We play here as a team. Whoever plays on my behalf is a fantastic and an extraordinary player.

"Decisions are made when there's a time frame and at that time, with the information at hand, the captain decided the best possible team for this afternoon.

"I'm really happy to have had the opportunity to play these first two days and (I'm) totally ready to play again tomorrow. My colleagues and team-mates are with the same attitude as I am."

Another rookie, Chris Wood, did not feature on the first day but enjoyed his first taste of the action as he and Justin Rose beat Jimmy Walker and Zach Johnson one-up in the foursomes.

Wood said: "For me to be paired with someone like Justin made my job an awful lot easier.

"To have somebody of that experience and that class next to me just gave me extra belief to go out and win the point."
