Ryder Cup firebrand Ian Poulter partnered Scottish rookie Stephen Gallacher in the third of the Friday morning fourballs against the United States at Gleneagles.
The Englishman has won his last seven games, including four out of four at Medinah in 2012, and he and home hero Gallacher were giving a rousing reception by thousands of fans surrounding the first tee.
Up against them were the all-rookie pairing of Jordan Spieth, at 21 the youngest player at Gleneagles, and 24-year-old Patrick Reed. They are the youngest American pairing in Ryder Cup history.
Reed and Spieth both found the fairway with their drives. Gallacher found a bunker right, while Poulter landed in some light rough left of the fairway.
