Paul Chaplet won an invite to the Masters in April after a one-stroke victory at the Latin America Amateur Championship in the Dominican Republic.

The 16-year-old Costa Rican birdied the 14th and then held his nerve over the final four holes to win with a three-under-par total of 285 after a two-under final round of 70.

Venezuela's Jorge Garcia was tied with Chaplet as he played the 17th but found the bunker with his approach and made bogey and then missed a 10-foot birdie putt on the last that would have forced a play-off.

Chaplet said: "I realised that I could win this tournament when I looked at the 14th-hole leaderboard. I was three under and I knew that if I could just get that birdie on 14 and have a little cushion on the last four holes I might have a chance - and that's exactly what I did."
