Justin Leonard enjoys share of the lead after first round of OHL Classic

Justin Leonard fired his way into a share of the lead at the OHL Classic at Mayakoba before darkness brought an early end to the opening day's play.

Leonard, who has said this will be one of only 12 events he plans to play this season, wasted little time making an impression with a bogey-free round of six-under 65 putting him alongside Aaron Baddeley, Shawn Stefani and Derek Fathauer at the top of the leaderboard.

Baddeley, a three-time winner who is playing as a past champion after losing his card last season, had seven birdies but bogeyed the par-four third.

Stefani, runner-up here last year, highlighted his round with an eagle on the par-five 13th after three consecutive birdies on the previous three holes, but he blotted his scorecard with a bogey on the ninth.

Fathauer like Leonard had a drama-free round without dropping a shot.

Matt Kuchar, number 16 in the world, is the highest-ranked player in the field but he could do no better than a 72 to take a share of 99th place.

Play was suspended for around 75 minutes due to wind and rain, and then darkness brought an early end to play with 21 players unable to complete their rounds.
