Jordan Spieth has unsurprisingly been voted PGA Tour player of the year after five wins this season, including the Masters and US Open.

PGA Tour members who played in at least 15 official money events this season were eligible to vote, with the ballot ending on October 1, four days after Spieth's victory in the Tour Championship also secured the FedEx Cup title and a 10million US dollars bonus.

The 22-year-old world number one is the youngest player of the year since Tiger Woods won the award at the age of 21 in 1997.

"The PGA Tour enjoyed a sensational season from every perspective as our young stars shone brighter than ever before, but none brighter than the PGA Tour player of the year Jordan Spieth," PGA Tour commissioner Tim Finchem said.

"He captivated us throughout a memorable year that included the FedExCup and five victories, highlighted by two major championships. And the sportsmanship he displayed in both victory and defeat was a stirring indication of the role model and ambassador he has become in a very short period of time."

As well as winning his first two major titles at Augusta National and Chambers Bay, Spieth finished just one shot outside the play-off for the Open Championship at St Andrews and was runner-up to Jason Day in the US PGA.

Spieth amassed a record 12,030,465 US dollars to earn the Arnold Palmer Award as the leading money winner and also finished first in adjusted scoring average (68.938) to earn the Byron Nelson Award (PGA Tour) and Vardon Trophy (PGA of America).

Fellow 22-year-old Daniel Berger was voted rookie of the year after losing a play-off to Padraig Harrington in the Honda Classic and finishing runner-up in the BMW Championship, the penultimate FedEx Cup play-off event.
