Jaidee makes flying start

Thailand's Thongchai Jaidee surged into contention for a seventh European Tour title in the Alstom Open de France with a stunning start to his third round on Saturday.

Jaidee began the day six shots off the lead having only made the halfway cut with two shots to spare on two over par at Le Golf National.

But the former paratrooper wiped out that deficit with birdies at each of the first six holes to join Martin Kaymer, Victor Dubuisson and Rafael Cabrera-Bello in the lead on four under par.

Jaidee's charge was slowed by a bogey on the eighth but low scoring was the order of the day with England's Mark Foster starting his round with three straight birdies to also improve to four under.

And S outh Africa's Jake Roos was also taking advantage of easier conditions at the 2018 Ryder Cup venue, racing to the turn in 31 with birdies on the first, fourth, sixth, seventh and ninth.

England's Richard Bland had set the early clubhouse target on one under par after equalling the lowest round of the week so far with seven birdies and two bogeys in a 66.
