England's Charley Hull only one off the pace in Florida

England's Charley Hull is just a shot off the lead after the opening round of the LPGA Tour's CME Group Tour Championship in Florida.

The 20-year-old from Kettering shot a five under par 67 to join So Yeon Ryu in second, with China's Shanshan Feng leading on six under.

Feng carded six birdies in a flawless round, picking up four of her gains over the last six holes.

Hull is still seeking her first LPGA Tour title but finished second in the ANA Inspiration earlier this year and a run of four straight birdies from the sixth propelled her up the leaderboard.

Another gain on the 14th completed her scoring as the Solheim Cup star kept a clean card.

"I'm happy with it," Hull told the LPGA Tour's official website.

"Obviously left a few out there. At the end of the day, I think I can go get them tomorrow.

"I felt like I've had a good year. I just want to get a win in.

"I feel like this is my first full year on the LPGA Tour, so it was just an experience of being away from home a lot. I kind of understand how my schedule is going to go next year."

World number one Lydia Ko shot a two under par 70, with Scotland's Catriona Matthew part of the group a shot further back.
