South Africa's Anthony Michael joined compatriot Justin Harding at the top of the leaderboard as home players continued to dominate the Tshwane Open on Friday.
Michael began the second round a shot off the lead but moved out in front with three birdies and a bogey on the front nine at Pretoria Country Club, before a second bogey of the day on the 11th.
That dropped the world number 774 to seven under par alongside overnight leader Harding, who was among the later starters, with Theunis Spangenberg two shots further back after opening his second round with a par on the 10th.
American Daniel Im had set the early clubhouse target on four under after completing a second consecutive 68, with South African Dylan Frittelli on three under following a 69.
Eleven South African players were inside the top 18, including defending champion George Coetzee on two under par, but former Masters champion Charl Schwartzel was one over par after an opening 71 and just a shot inside the projected cut.
