Defeat equals York's worst losing streak

York equalled a club record of eight straight defeats with a 5-1 home thrashing against Accrington Stanley.

Goals from Billy Kee (two), Matty Pearson, Josh Windass and Shay McCartan saw Stanley rack up a sixth away win from their last seven fixtures on the road with home sub Bradley Fewster getting the hosts' sole reply.

Kee missed an open net to give Accrington an early lead but the visitors did not have to wait much longer to make the breakthrough.

A 15th minute Windass free-kick was blocked by the home wall but Pearson's 25-yard follow-up strike beat home keeper Scott Flinders with the aid of a deflection.

Stanley went on to double their lead on 33 minutes when Sean McConville crossed from the left, Windass touched the ball towards goal and Kee slid in at the far post to net.

A third was added after 61 minutes when Stefan O'Connor tripped Tom Davies and Windass calmly found Flinders' bottom left hand corner from the penalty spot.

It was 4-0 after 72 minutes when Kee tapped in after McConville's shot was parried by Flinders.

Fewster got a goal on 75 minutes after charging on to Josh Carson's ball over the top before firing into Jason Mooney's bottom left hand corner.

But McCartan wrapped up matters with two minutes to go, firing past Flinders from 20 yards.
