Word Cup 2014 - 76 days to go: Teams - Costa Rica

28 March 2014 10:51

Costa Rica, nicknamed Los Ticos are the third most successful team in CONCACAF after Mexico and the United States having qualified four times for the World Cup and are currently ranked 34 by FIFA going into the World Cup.

England are set to play their last group game against Costa Rica, a match that could prove critical if England are to progress into the later stages of the tournament. The two teams have never met in international football and the only name familiar in England from the current squad would be Bryan Oviedo who plays at Everton. Six of the current Costa Rica squad and recent call-ups play in their own domestic league with the rest in Major League and European Leagues.

2014 has started with two defeats and a win for Costa Rica, losing 4-0 to Chile, 1-0 to South Korea and winning 2-1 against Paraguay. They have two friendly games lined-up with Japan on 2nd June and Republic of Ireland on 7th June before facing Uruguay in their first World Cup match.

Costa Rica qualified for the 2014 FIFA World Cup via the Central and North American Confederations qualifier, finishing second to the United States with Honduras finishing 3rd and Mexico fourth.
