09 April 2014 11:54

A total of 64 matches are scheduled to be played across twelve host cities at the FIFA World Cup in Brazil. The World Cup finals have doubled in size from an original four group 16 team format to an eight group first round.

The 64 matches will be played across twelve venues that are evenly spread through the regions of Brazil which creates significant long-distance travel needs for teams but is more representative than the 1950 World Cup. The 64th and final match will take place at the Estadio do Maracana in Rio de Janeiro on the 13th July a month after the first game.

Match 1 takes place on the 12th of June featuring the hosts Brazil v Croatia in Sao Paulo. England v Italy is match 8, Uruguay v England is match 23 and Costa Rica v England is match 40 on the 24th June.

Of the 32 teams competing 13 come from EUFA, followed by 6 from CONMEBOL, 4 from CONCACAF, 5 from CAF and 4 from AFC. No teams qualified from OFC.
