Wigan power to home win over Chesterfield

First-half goals from Max Power, Reece James and Michael Jacobs gave Wigan a comfortable 3-1 Sky Bet League One victory over Chesterfield.

It was an unhappy return to his home-town for Danny Wilson, who had master-minded a recent mini-revival since taking over as Spireites boss.

Power gave Wigan the lead after six minutes with a superb strike from 25 yards that flew into the top corner.

Two goals in the space of two minutes just before the break effectively killed off the visitors.

Wabara, making his debut after penning a short-term deal in midweek, teed up James, whose left-foot shot arrowed into the roof of the net.

Then, barely seconds after the restart, Jacobs raced through and flicked the ball past the advancing goalkeeper.

Wigan had thrown away a three-goal lead in their last home game on Tuesday night when Sheffield United somehow left the DW Stadium with a point after looking dead and buried at the three-quarter mark.

But there was to be no repeat on this occasion despite Ollie Banks pulling one back 11 minutes from time.
